Notes
The Cube teapot was designed by Robert Crawford Johnson of Leicester and registered in November 1916. It went into production in 1920 and became an iconic symbol of the mid-to-late 1920s, becoming especially popular on transatlantic liners. Gray’s sourced its white ware cube teapots from at least two Stoke-on-Trent manufacturers: Grimwades of Hanley (as in the first image) and George Clews of Tunstall, the latter pots being common in Sirram picnic sets.
Further information can be found in The Cube Teapot by Anne Anderson, Richard Dennis 1999, ISBN 0903685760.
The picnic set is a “Sirram” product, referenced “M.Ltd. B”.
