The design features a ‘special finish’ to the back of the plate with the purple lustre decoration as shown. This type of finish, difficult to appreciate when the plate is hung on a wall or when flat on a table, has been recorded on a number of lustre designs that were used for large plates.
The ‘star’ rebus on the reverse has also been seen on patterns 4124, 4149, 4153 and 4218.
