The paintress’ mark on this plate is that of Hilda May Lockett, one of the most accomplished decorators at Gray’s Pottery.
The design features a ‘special finish’ to the back of the plate with orange lustre bands and lines (see image). This finish, difficult to appreciate when the plate is hung on a wall or when flat on a table, has been recorded on a number of lustre designs that were used for plates.
