Notes

This must have been a very popular pattern, being produced from the late 1920s through into the 1950s (when the pattern number A8312 was also used). Examples of 8312/A8312 and also the 1930 banded pattern 9148 are to be seen regularly with the 27.5mm wide N6 Clipper backstamp, in use from 1948-61.
8312 was used on tea, coffee and dinner ware, on jugs of many shapes, on toast-racks, vases, storage jars (often with content names added), condiment sets, bowls and even lamp bases. It was still being advertised in 1955.

Lidded storage jars/canisters of this pattern have been recorded with large, black, hand-painted contents labels. Across a range of banded patterns the following names have been seen: BAKING POWDER, BARLEY, CANDIED PEEL, CASTOR SUGAR, COFFEE, CURRANTS, FLOUR, LENTILS, LUMP SUGAR, OATMEAL, PEAS, RAISINS, RICE, SAGO, SALT, SPICE, SUGAR, SULTANAS, TAPIOCA, TEA.

A pattern sold by the London retailer Harrods.

Note that items have been recorded with an ‘A’ prefix for this early pattern – A8312 will be from 1946.
