Notes
Patterns A8481, A8493, A8496, A8497 and A8503 all appear to be lustre designs solely on decorative stoneware shapes; all vases except for a lamp base and a ‘small basket’ (see the image for pattern A8496). The shapes may have been supplied by Pearson of Chesterfield.
Interestingly, during a period when Gray’s Pottery was exporting a great deal of its lustre production to North America, none of the examples of these five patterns has been recorded in an export market. The vase shown in the second image, though now in Australia (and also having been in New Zealand), was bought in St Andrews, Scotland around 1955.
The lampshade, though likely to be contemporary with the base, is not necessarily the original. It has the words WAITE MITCHAM ASTRA Pat No 568406 moulded in the top ring.
