Notes
The pattern’s coverage of the lamp base and the candlestick demonstrates the skill of the pattern designer to ‘fit’ a particular design onto various shapes.
If the amount of A2166 pots seen at auction and on auction sites is anything to go by, this must have been a very popular pattern. It has been recorded on a wide range of both useful and ornamental ware such as coffee ware, jugs, plates of various shapes, bowls, trays, preserve pots, ashtrays and wall decorations.
This is one of several designs, mostly floral in theme, which incorporate a female’s name somewhere within the decoration. Twelve names have been recorded for A2166, the largest number of names for any one pattern by far. They are: Betty, Dora, Elsie (on the coffee can’s saucer), Jane, Jean, Kathy, Kay, Phyllis, Rene (on the wall decoration), Vida, Wynne and Zena (on the lamp base). See the ‘Designers’, ‘Paintress Designers’ section of the website for more details.
