Notes
The coffee set is an excellent example showing the various extraordinary hand-painting skills of the Gray’s Pottery workforce: in stylised floral and leaf motifs, banding, lining and gilding using so-called ‘best’ gold (22 carat).
The earthenware body is Johnson’s cream-coloured Victorian, hence the Sunbuff backstamps (mark reference N4).
This was undoubtedly an expensive pattern to produce.
