The covered vegetable dish shown here has a ‘ribbed-edge’ or gadroon-edge and is one of the earliest examples of Gray’s use of this earthenware shape, supplied by Johnson where it was called Old English shape. It was popularly known at Gray’s Pottery as ‘rope edge’ and was in regular use from 1945 into the 1950s.
