Notes
The first two images are definitely ashtrays: there are small ‘rests’ at some of the corners. Without the rests (see pattern A8664 for an example) the pots could be used for purposes other than as ashtrays, such as for bon-bons/sweets, pins, butter etc. This meant that less purchase tax (a luxury goods tax used between 1940 and 1973) would be levied on pots with such definitions.
The third image is of a shallow lidded box, usually considered to be a box for cigarettes.
