This pattern has a Heath print: Scenes in London No 42, which is one of the few prints that demonstrates the origins of the image as being created for a book print – the name of the gin on the barrel, Old Tom, is written back-to-front (see the Prints & Verses, Henry Heath section).
The verse on the reverse of the tankard in the first image is 8V “Friend of my soul this goblet sip …” (see the Prints & Verses, Verses section). The verse on the second tankard is 5V.
