The pattern number, only marked on the bowl of this Tom and Jerry set, is difficult to interpret.
‘Tom and Jerry’ punch sets, popular in the USA, have been recorded for patterns A8834, A8930, A9007, A9008, A9010 and A9727 as well as for A9726.
The Tabard Inn print seen here was used for several Gray’s designs, often incorporating a splashed lustre border, see the following examples: A5569, A8369, A8564 and A8569.
The verse in the centre of the bowl is 5V, two are used on the mugs: 6V and 8V (see the ‘Prints & Verses’, ‘Verses’ section of the website).
