Notes

Gray’s Pottery features significantly in an article in Pottery and Glass, July 1956, pps 220-223, entitled Lustre. A jug/pitcher with a robin is illustrated and has the following text within the caption: A combination of lustre and copper plate engraving. The rather strange robin is in the traditional American style dating from the fifteenth century.

This jug/pitcher was for sale by John Howard at Heritage, Woodstock, England. The description given was: a fine silver resist decorated jug, dated 1815, English or Welsh, with image of a bird in enamel colours (traditionally known as the Robin pattern even though it looks more like a chaffinch).
