Notes
If the amount of 7956 pots seen at auction and on auction sites is anything to go by, this must have been a very popular pattern. It has been recorded on a wide range of tea and coffee ware, on jugs of various shapes and sizes, plates (round and square), bowls, beakers, trays, preserve pots, sweet cups and the commemorative vase shown.
7956 appears to use a honey-glaze, pattern 8744 has a white glaze.
The commemorative vase, (5″/130mm high), has no complete backstamp but appears to have two lines from the ‘second galleon’ backstamp reference H1, in use from 1921-28.
The rather rare ‘Susie Cooper Ware’ backstamp (reference D2, 1928 in the Backstamps section) seems to have been used predominantly in the pattern range 7366-8071. Of five popular patterns within the range (numbers 7670, 7913, 7956, 7960 and 8071) relatively few examples of backstamp D2 have been recorded with the sole exception of 7670.
