A pattern sold by the North American retailer Fondeville.
The lowest image is of a ‘pull’ (a tissue-paper transfer) from an original copper plate produced for Gray’s Pottery.
The date on the jug is 1797, the date that the warship USS Constitution was launched. The significance of the dates on the pull, 1776 and 1926, is unknown.
The two prints are comparable with two others, Bonhomme Richard and the Serapis and Commodore John Paul Jones, produced for jugs for the Patriotic Products Association (see Retailers section).
